Story Behind This Painting: Hummingbirds are one of my favorite birds to paint. I have set up my garden with flowers that hummingbirds like along with nectar feeders. I have more of these little jewels visiting each summer. This Rufous male was eating from a Vermillionaire Cuphea plant. The hummingbirds loved this plant and I captured a lot of images of them here. I love the warm, sunlit glow of light on his neck and head. The rusty orange of his body and neck mirrors the vibrant orange flowers. The sharp focus of the bird and flowers is a nice contrast to the blurry background and fluttering wings.
