Story Behind This Painting: While I don’t paint like Claude Monet, his waterlily series influenced my love of lilies and reflections. This is a scene from the Botanic Gardens in St. Louis, MO. I was inspired by the beautiful lilies, the glass globes floating among them, and the limited color palette. The glass globes are man-made objects that mirror the fragile, organic shapes of the lilies and create interesting patterns reflected into the water. The Victoria Giant waterlily pads illuminate the transparent qualities of watercolor with wonderful color changes and edges that glow from the light. This painting plays with organic and inorganic shapes and repetition of ovals to create a colorful, textural, water garden scene.
