Story Behind This Painting: A Rufous hummingbird visited my backyard and I got some pictures of her with a plant called Red Birds in a Tree. I painted this during a class I was teaching on Ink and Watercolor. For this painting I chose to leave some of the inked areas without color and left a lot of the white of the paper in the background. The graphic zig-zag shape adds motion and highlights the bird and flowers.
