Story Behind This Painting: I love to paint hummingbirds and I can easily spend hours in my garden each summer photographing them. This painting came about because I wanted to show the flight of a Rufous hummingbird as it flew in to gather some nectar from a flower. With my DSLR and a high shutter speed, I was able to capture a variety of poses that felt like the bird was almost dancing. I kept the background flowers blurred to add to the feeling of motion. I lifted light lines to emphasize the bird’s speed in flight.
