Story Behind This Painting: The white feathers and bright orange beak of the American white pelican against the dark water caught my attention. As the bird splashed, I took several photos and I knew immediately I would paint this scene. The pelican’s pose created a dynamic triangle with his eye as the focal point. The bubbles in the water create texture, movement and leading lines to draw the viewer’s eye around the painting.
